Clay & Hive is a woman-owned and veteran operated enterprise in Concord, NC, committed to sustainable beekeeping, handcrafted pottery, and education. We produce premium local honey products, provide immersive beekeeping and pottery workshops, and support farms and families by lending out pollinator colonies.
Pam Allen began beekeeping over a decade ago and earned her Certified Beekeeper designation through UGA’s Master Beekeeping Institute. With an K-12 art education background, she has taught both privately and in classrooms for 20 years. As an account manager for a corporate beekeeping company, she has led programs for Fortune 500 companies, helped manage apiaries, and previously ran her own honey brand, Gypsy Soul Specialties.
In 2025, she and her fiancé James launched clay & hive, combining her passions for sustainable beekeeping and handmade ceramics. Pam also teaches pottery in Concord and manages hives across Cabarrus County and the NC High Country. She’s proud to lead a woman-owned, NC-certified honey business—and couldn’t BEE happier.
James Pfaff is the behind-the-scenes force at clay & hive, leading operations and marketing. A retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 20+ years in Special Operations intelligence, he earned his MBA in Executive Leadership from Queens University in 2024.
James blends his love for sustainability with entrepreneurship, helping grow a business that protects pollinators, educates the community, and supports Pam’s bees from backyard hives to mountain peaks.
